TEACHERS' CLASSROOM TOOLS GRANT AWARDS
The Ohio County Community Foundation is honored to administer the Teachers’ Classroom
Tools Grants Program. The purpose of the grant program is to award grants to teachers in
the Rising Sun Ohio County School Corporation to fund projects or purchase teaching tools
that will enhance the curriculum in the classroom. In 2007, total of $10,000 was awarded in
grants from the Ohio County Today & Tomorrow Endowment Fund. The following teachers
were awarded Teachers’ Classroom Tools Grants in 2007.
Rising Sun High School
• Amy Todd, $413.65 to purchase Calculators and a Calculator Caddy for each
student to have access to a calculator in the classroom and provide storage for the
calculators when not in use.
• Sue Walcott, $376.00 to purchase a motorized projection screen to be used during
classroom instruction.
• Mike Seipel, $50.00 to purchase a Spanish Alphabet Keyboard for students to use
when writing Spanish compositions and to allow Mr. Seipel to type quizzes and tests in
Spanish.
• Darrin Monhollen and Mike Seipel, $858.00 to purchase a DLP Projector,
screen and DVD player to be used during classroom instruction.
• Bob White, $347.00 to purchase a DVD Player/Recorder and CD’s to convert older
VHS tapes used for classroom instruction to DVD.
• Tim Slayback, $500.00 to purchase a 20” DeWalt Scroll saw to enhance the
Construction Process/Construction System Courses.
• Karen Gillard, $382.64 to purchase a TI-Screen to display calculator graphics
during classroom instruction.
• Rachel Emmons, $500.00 to purchase materials for Red Ribbon Week , sponsored
by Students Against Drunk Driving, for the student body.
• Paula Hunt, Jason Barth, $400.00 to purchase supplies and cooking utensils for
the Sunshine Snacks prepared and sold by the Special Education class. The project will help
teach life skills to Special Education students while providing snacks to the student body.
• Doug Porter, $400.00, to purchase Robotic Technology in the Laboratory to
stimulate student interest in science, technology, engineering and math careers by completing
experiments with a robotic arm.
• Pam McClure, $360.03 to purchase a Drunk & Driving Kit to educate students on
the dangers of driving under the influence. The kit provides goggles which allow students to
simulate what it is like to drive under the influence.
• Sandy Ande-Walker, $373.07 to purchase nutritional material to promote healthy
eating habits among students.
• Kevin Wirsch, $289.63 to purchase teaching materials and a DVD player to
implement the program Reading Development through Classic Literature and Visual Aid in
the classroom.
Ohio County Elementary Middle School
• Andrea Levi, $174.85 to purchase calculators for use in the 7th & 8th grade math
classes.
• Nanette Williams, $211.05 to purchase Early Primary Readers for the elementary
school library.
• Tonya Poling, Renee Cole, $590.53 to purchase the program Opportunities to
write with the Reader's Response Notebooks to enhance student writing.
• Angela Wilson, Ron Eads, $999.00 to purchase an Audio CD Recorder to allow
the recording of live rehearsals and performances and duplicate them to a CD for students to
watch to see how to improve their performances.
• Brian Graham, Nancy Swart, Jason McDaniels, $758.96 to purchase a
computer projector and DVD copier to implement Understanding by Design curriculum
sponsored by Ball State University.
• Candy Southard, $485.59 to purchase Hands on Science Kit which includes high
interest activity cards and hands-on materials for exploring science concepts.
• Chandra Phillips, Julie Wilson, Kelly Shelton, $780.00 to purchase materials
for Cooking in the Classroom with the Alphabet to cook food items that begin with the letter
of the alphabet student’s are learning.
• Rinda Devers, Mike Padgett, $750.00 to purchase tickets for fifth graders to go to
the production of the Nutcracker Ballet at Cincinnati Music Hall.

Gifts may be made in memory or in honor of a friend
or loved one. Donations to OCCF-administered
funds are tax deductible in most cases. Consult your
