Teachers’ Classroom Tools Grants
The Teachers’ Classroom Tools Grants Program was established within the Ohio County
Community Foundation in 1999 to provide grants to teachers within the Rising Sun School
Corporation. Formally known as Thank-A-Teacher Grants, the Teachers’ Classroom Tools
Program was created to provide grants for teaching tools that enhance classroom learning or
curriculum. Since 1999, the Ohio County Community Foundation has awarded $42, 512 in
Teachers’ Classroom Tools Grants to teachers in the Ohio County Elementary-Middle
School and Rising Sun High School. Teachers can request up to $500 and may work
together and combine their grant request for more expensive projects or programs.
A total of $4, 347.41 was awarded during 2008 to the following teachers:
Ohio County Elementary-Middle School Grants
Kristin Market – Grade 3 - $489.49 – to purchase materials for Math in the Classroom to
increase student mathematic scores through the use of math games and problem solving
journals.
Karen Chase; Candy Southard; Laurie Stegemiller; Nancy Hoffman; Jerilyn
Lambert – Grades K-5 - $550 to rent literary costumes to wear in the Book Parade during
Children’s Book Week.
Rinda Devers; Mike Padgett - $750 – to fund a field trip for 5th Graders to see the
Cincinnati Ballet presentation of the Nutcracker Ballet at the Aronoff Center
Andrea Levi - $175.32 – 7th & 8th grade Science – to purchase a conductivity tester, a
vacuum pump plate and hand vacuum pump for use when teaching gravity, sound, gas laws
and electricity.
Rising Sun High School Grants
Kevin Wirsch – 10th Grade English - $83.88 – to purchase 12 books of the novel Catcher
in the Rye to replace lost and worn volumes.
Darrin Monhollen – Introduction of Engineering Design and Principals of Engineering
Grades 9-12 - $471 – to purchase models of catapults and simple machines to enhance the
teaching concepts of simple machines.
Bob White – Grades 9-12 History - $472.23 – to purchase lessons and maps of American
History in the form of power point presentations as visual aids to be used with the history
curriculum.
Rachel Emmons – SADD Sponsor – Grades 9-12 – $383.50 - to purchase lanyards to be
distributed to each student during the Red Ribbon Week program which educates students
of the consequences of using drugs, tobacco and alcohol.
Robert Kelnhofer – Grades 10-12 - $69.66 – to purchase a Keyspan Presentation
Remote to make the use of the overhead projector in the classroom more efficient when
presenting Power Point or Excel files to students.
Andrea Levi – Grades 10-12- Chemistry - $402 – to purchase teaching materials and
consumables for the high school chemistry class to be used during lab to reinforce chemistry
concepts.
Sue Walcott – Grades 10-12 – Advanced Earth Science - $500 – to purchase teaching
materials and 3 Power House Kits to allow students to build models of an alternative energy
house

Gifts may be made in memory or in honor of a friend
or loved one. Donations to OCCF-administered
funds are tax deductible in most cases. Consult your
