FUTURE GENERATIONS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Ohio County Community Foundation (OCCF) is pleased to
administer the Future Generations Scholarship Program. This
grant program was established within the Ohio County Community
Foundation in March of 2006 by Mayor, Bill Marksberry, City Clerk,
Rae Baker Gipson and the Rising Sun City Council. It is the goal of
the City of Rising Sun to financially assist every graduate of Rising
Sun High School seeking to pursue a four (4) year college degree
who meets the specific scholarship criteria. This grant program
will began with the Class of 2006. Each year, the City of Rising
Sun determines the amount of scholarship award by available
funds. This year the award amount will be $1,000 per recipient
with a payout of $500 per semester.
Scholarship Amount: $1,000

• Applicant must be under the age of 25 at the time of making
application and a 2006 graduate of Rising Sun High School (RSHS) or
a RSHS graduate of any year thereafter.
• Applicant must have attended 4 years at Rising Sun High School in
his/her high school career.
• Applicant must show proof of enrollment or acceptance into a
4-year college.
• Applicant must submit a copy of their most recent transcript with
the application.
• Applicant must have at least a 2.0 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale.
• Applicant’s receiving a full - tuition scholarship are not eligible to
apply.
• Beginning with the class of 2007, RSHS student’s are required to
complete a Community Appreciation Service Project to be eligible
for this scholarship. Students may begin working toward their
service hours beginning their freshman year of high school. Service
projects must be approved by the Foundation. A copy of the
organizations whose projects are approved by the City of Rising Sun
and OCCF is available in the office of the RSHS Guidance Counselor
or OCCF office. Completed and signed forms must be on file in the
OCCF office prior to the student’s graduation date of their senior
year. Students must complete the following minimum number of
service hours before graduation to be eligible to receive the
scholarship. Due to the program’s implementation, hours have been
prorated as follows:
• 2007 RSHS graduates = 10 hours
• 2008 RSHS graduates = 20 hours
• 2009 RSHS graduates = 30 hours
• 2010 RSHS graduates and thereafter = 40 hours
• Applicant must submit a completed application by the deadline
stated on the application.
• Recipients of this scholarship must write a thank you to the Rising
Sun City Council before the first scholarship payment will be
released. Thank you letters should be submitted to the Ohio County
Community Foundation at P.O. Box 170, Rising Sun, In. 47040, to be
forwarded to the City of Rising Sun.
• This scholarship may be used for tuition and/or books and will be
paid directly to the school in which the recipient is enrolled. The
scholarship will be paid out in two separate payments of $500 per
semester within the academic year the scholarship was awarded
upon the Foundation’s receipt of:
• the recipient’s current tuition bill and most recent transcript for
the semester in which the scholarship is to be applied. Recipient
must maintain a 2.0 or “C” average to be eligible for release of
payment
• A written thank you to the Rising Sun City Council before first
payment will be released.
• This scholarship must be used during the academic year in which it
was awarded.
Reapplying for the Scholarship

• Scholarship recipients may reapply for the Future Generations
Scholarship the following academic year in which the scholarship
was awarded if they have completed at least their freshman year of
college and meet the scholarship criteria. Recipients are only
eligible to receive one (1) award per academic year paid out in two
separate payments of $500 per semester for up to five (5) years of
post-secondary education from the date of their high school
graduation.
• Recipients must have submitted a completed Community
Appreciation Service Project Form to OCCF prior to their high
school graduation date.
• Scholarship recipients must have maintained a “C” average (2.0)
while attending post-secondary school to be eligible to reapply.
• Recipient must remain in good standing with college for all
semesters.
• To reapply recipients are required to submit a completed application
by the deadline stated on the current year application for each
academic year they are eligible.
• Recipients who have reapplied and are awarded this scholarship are
required to write a thank you to the Rising Sun City Council before
payment of the first semester of the current academic year will be
released. Thank you letters should be sent to the Ohio County
Community Foundation at P.O. Box 170, Rising Sun, In. 47040, to be
forwarded to the City of Rising Sun.
